It's only as you begin to think of it and the more you think about it you begin to wonder why? Why in today's world do we still get paid like yesteryears? Why in today's world can we not have the option to access our earned unpaid wages when we need it?

Historical Context

Our founders parents worked in the private sector and the mother added a side hustle to her banking job by establishing an inner city transportation business. Her danfo plied the 'Apapa Wharf to Mile 2' route in Lagos state. As a primary 4 pupil at the time our founder was fascinated watching this business of hers: The driver and bus conductor would arrive in the morning, collect the keys, wash and clean the danfo and set off for the days work; later in the evening they'd return and provide an agreed cut of daily earnings to our founders mum and what was left would be split between the driver and bus conductor in a predetermined ratio.

The Problem

Years later as an adult working across different verticals such as Financial Services, Retail, FinTech, Energy in the consulting and startups space in the tech sector our founder, based on childhood experience, sought to digitise inner city bus ticketing specifically for the Lagos danfo passengers including providing return/daily/weekly/fortnightly/monthly tickets and hopefully scaling that to other cities. As our founder researched and did customer interviews one area that intrigued him was the split of daily earnings between the bus owner, driver and conductor. For all three, but particularly the latter two, this was literally their earned wage for the day and our founder saw a much wider application for this concept i.e. why can't someone working at any company be able to access their earned unpaid wages in a similar manner, if needed, afterall they've earned it so why should they strictly wait till month end (or the pay period end) to receive their wages; how convenient could it be to rely on ones own earned wages to resolve emergencies rather than expensive loans, overdrafts or credit cards all with expensive late charges; what else is possible in this novel approach.

The Birth of Wagefit

This was the moment where our founder realised there was a part of the danfo ticketing user journey that could have a much wider use case and a much needed one too. Some research and beta tests later and Wagefit was born.
